Knowledge for better food systems

Presentations and videos from CCAFS event on IPCC findings

Within the IPCC’s Working Group III report, various approaches to reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions and increasing farmer’s resistance to food insecurity and climate change were identified. Of the two main themes discussed, one centered on the need to increase conservation and climate smart agricultural production techniques, and the other urged a shift in consumption and waste patterns. More information and videos regarding the IPCC’s response, recommendations, priorities, financial innovations, and particular responses to mitigation and increased agricultural productivity, as well as country specific information for Brazil and Ghana may be found here.

Africa

The 54 countries in Africa – from the dry northern African nations, through those in deserts and rainforests, all the way to the temperate parts of South Africa – are hugely varied in their ethnic, cultural, climatic, geographic, and economic aspects. The continent’s population of over a billion inhabitants, with a median age of 19.7 years, is the youngest in the world. Due to both its localised epidemics of hunger and its huge untapped agricultural potential, Sub-Saharan Africa specifically is a key focus area for many NGOs and development agencies interested in food production and security.
