Seminar: Food security 2012; taking forward the Foresight project Global Food and Farming Futures
Westminster Food & Nutrition Forum Keynote Seminar, Morning, Wednesday, 23rd May 2012, Central London
This seminar will bring together policymakers and stakeholders to discuss the key priorities for food security, both internationally and in the UK. One year on from the launch of the Foresight report on Global Food and Farming Futures - which called for a redesign of the global food system focused around sustainability - planned sessions critically examine whether the report's recommendations are being put into practice. The seminar will examine the key challenges for the food system including rising demand for food, increasing pressure on resources and the effects of global environmental change, and will look at how far technology should be used to increase agricultural productivity, as well as considering the prospects for an agroecological approach to food security. Delegates will also consider the implications of global food insecurity for UK farmers and food businesses, as well as the priorities for policymakers in the light of ongoing reform of the Common Agricultural Policy and Common Fisheries Policy.
