Who we are

Tara Garnett | Tim Jackson | Emily Lewis-Brown | John Jackson

The website manager, John Jackson, originally trained as a scientist.  After obtaining a 1st class degree in Zoology from Durham University, John completed his PhD at the University of Reading on the biochemical toxicology of avian serum esterases. The research resulted in the development of an immunoassay to detect whether birds on agricultural land had been exposed to sub-lethal dosages of organophosphorus pesticides.

After the PhD, he took a year out to concentrate on writing music and generally being a rock star. Then, in 1995 he jumped tracks into the world of design, working for a small design company for three years.

In 1998 he left to set up the Argument by Design (tAbD). While this is primarily a freelance project, tAbD has links with a loose network of designers and web developers who collaborate on an ad hoc basis. He concentrates on standards-compliant web design and development, with a particular interest in environmental, educational and social welfare projects. He has been working on the FCRN website since 2007.

In any time not spent on all things web, he continues to develop songwriting. His songs have been published in the US and found placements in various films and documentaries. John is based in Bloxham, North Oxfordshire.
